Portugal no mapa da Ficção Científica

Por mais que a edição de 1993 da Encyclopedia of Science Fiction, organizada por John Clute e Peter Nicholls, seja a grande obra de referência (não esquecer a sua irmã, a Encyclopedia of Fantasy), não há qualquer entrada relativa à FC em Portugal.
Parece que a lacuna já foi parcialmente resolvida. O Historical Dictionary of Science Fiction Literature, da autoria de Brian Stableford (Latham (MD), The Scarecrow Press, 2004), também ele um dos contribuidores principais para a Encyclopedia..., tem a seguinte entrada, que copio fielmente (ausências de alguns acentos incluídas):

«PORTUGUESE SCIENCE FICTION
Portuguese fantastic literature made little use of sf motifs until U.S. imports provided models in the wake of World War II, although Melo de Matos has published a vision of Lisboa no Ano 2000 (Lisbon in the Year 2000) in 1906. Such remnants were gathered together into a patchwork history in the magazine Omnia (1988-1991) by Alvaro de Sousa Holstein and José Manuel Morais, who published a definitive Bibliografia da Ficção Científica e Fantasia Portuguesa (1993). New writers promoted in the magazine included João Barreiros and Daniel Tércio, both of whom were represented, along with Luis Filipe Silva - Barreiros's collaborator on the epic novel Terrarium (1996) - António de Macedo and Maria de Menezes, in Non-Events on the Edge of the Empire (1996), the first of three bilingual anthologies published in association with "Encounters" held in Cascais from 1996-2001. Simetria, the Portuguese Science Fiction and Fantasy Association, organized the later ones. The other anthologies in the series are Side-Effects (1997) and Frontiers (1998); the latter features a succint history of "SF in Portugal" by Teresa Sousa de Almeida.»

No final, há uma referência cruzada para «SF IN LATIN AMERICA», compreensível apenas porque o Brasil foi aí inserido.
